Big Black Disk

Modern Vinyl

Just curious about anyone's feelings regarding the new album, especially given the amount of negative press I seem to be seeing (or am I imagining?). Been listening to this for about three weeks now, and it is only the last few days that it has started to grow on me. Normally the albums that I have the hardest time learning to like end up being the ones that I love the most over time. Or sometimes they wind up at the bottom of the stack! Time will tell...

It seems that the second weeks sales of the album fell off by 75%. What does that tell you?

For me, U2 stopped making music after Unforgettable Fire. Everything that followed just missed the mark for me.

Yeah I have to agree that the hype has been a little nuts over this album, and I think it might have worked against them (and their choice for the first single was terrible!). That being said I do have to admit that I was up every night to see them on Letterman, and it was after hearing some of the songs "live" that I went back to listen to the album more. They seemed to open up more without all the studio "trickery". Live at Red Rocks is definitely one of my faves as well, along with the Wide Awake in America EP. Maybe they'd be better off if they stuck to shorter releases?!

Have not heard the album yet, but the "Hype Machine" has been going full tilt. 1 week as the only music guest on Letterman, and "pop Up" stores (which only haveU2 product) in Hollywood, and opening the Grammys. I thought the song was not that great, but then again I thought the TV sound SUCKED!!!!!!!!. I was a early U2 fan, Live at Red Rocks is still a favorite, but the last few albums have left me cold I'll check it out later, but I'll bet I'll agree with Rick and John. Rick ,Gentle Giants album Octopus was one friends of mine tried forever to get me into. It took seeing them in Concert at the Santa Monica Civic, then I got it.
and they are one of my favorite bands of all time, have all but their last LP (which sucks)

I purchased the new 2 LP set from U2 on Tuesday and i have listened to it clear through. I didn't grab me, nor was it compelling enough to listen again. yet i might revisit later today.
