I just saw in the latest Rolling Stone that the Beatles Remastered CD's will " sound like modern recordings". Looks like they took the Analog masters and went 192/24 I don't know what EMI means by that. Want to bet. George Martin and Geoff are missing in action based on MF's information ". So I'm keeping my EMI Import , MOFI's ,and George Martin stereo remixed Lp's .George Martin told Mikey F years ago that the Lp's will sound better than any CD 's
Check out Mikey's take on all this at www.music…

I've been in a "Mid 60's musical flashback" mode lately and I thought I'd ask a few trivia questions about that period (I was there and I remember, David Crosby, is wrong) I'll post the answers in a future post.
1. Name the only act to ever place 4 albums in the top 10 simultaneously(Hint it is not who you think).
2. Who where the first 2Rock acts signed by Columbia Records after Mitch Miller Left the label?
3. Who was the Productor that worked with them both?
4.Who held the # 1 spot on Billboar…

2-26-09 Stereophile on line has a news flash that NHT is taking a time out. NHT last day of normal business is going to be March 31. The web site will still be up. Chris and John hope to be back in production in 2010.I For one wish them well ,and hope that they return to the core values that made NHt product among the best , and made NHT a great factory to rep. Chris has called NHT the "coackroach" of the industry" When we are all gone the coackroaches will be listening to their stuff on NHT".

Chris went off to see the Wizard at CES. Today (Thursday) is the first day of CES 2009. I've been to 17 CES and this year I'm glad I'm not going.I was a Mfg Rep for 17 years and usually looked forward to CES.This year would be very hard for me ,one of the major Mfgs who took great pride in being "Made In The USA", has as it's major goal to have all it's product "out sourced"as of this month. You know what that means right? Major American job loss in a right to work state. I worked for this compa…

I just learned that Freddy Hubbard pasted away. A major trumpet player from the late 50's till now His models were Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie and especially Clifford Brown. He was a side man with the Montgomery brothers, Sonny Rollins, J.J. Johnson, Art Blakey And the Jazz MESSENGERS, and Max Roach He became a leader in the early 70's. Reading the new post about the Association's 1st Lp brought back memorys. They were a great live band .
I saw them at the Hollywood Bowl in 1967 with a line up of: Sopwith Camel, The Sun Shine Company, The Who, Eric Burton, The Everly Brothers and the ASSOCIATION as the headliners. Two of the Warner Bros albums to look for are Insight Out(The First On WB 1967) this was sort of a concept album with songs like" Enter the Young"",Requiem For The Masses, and the monster hit 'Windy". Which was number…

With the Holidays fast approaching I thought nows the time to look for some sounds of the season. One of my choices may be new to you the Vivaldi Gloria And The Pergolesi Magnificat. The Magnificat is scored for solo quartet, mixed chorus, strings(no violas), and basso continuo. The Gloria received its first modern performance in Siena on Sept 20th 1939. look for the Academy of St Martin -in-the Fields with Neville Marriner on Argo from 1966.
For a more traditional work Handels Messiah the one t…

All music is based on rhythm, a simple statement, but true, which made me think about my favorite rhythm sections. I am a drummer(don't play much any more)so my favorites are based on what I know to be important, such as ,do the bass and drummer work off each other and listen to the other members of the band and build from that?Sections that do are:Motowns"Funk Brothers" What can I say about these guys, listen to the opening of the "Temps" My Girl, and Pappa Was a Rolling Stone" .The "Stax Volt"…

On Friday I was at one of my favorite record stores Poo Bahs in Pasadena, after finding a Classic Records 180 Gram RCA Living Stereo Reissue of Fritz Reiner & the Chicago Symphony Also sprach Zarathustra one of RCA's first stereo sessions in 1954($35.00new) for $4.99 I was pretty pumped. Poo Bahs has thousands of Lp's in racks on the floor for $.50. each. I never went through them because at 50 cents each, they have to be trashed or crap right?Wrong. While down on my knees, I found lots of s…

In 1969 and1970 music in Southren California was going in many different directions, one of them was "Country Rock" Bands like the Byrds Poco,And The Flying Burritos Brothers.Under most peoples radar was what Rick Nelson was doing.Rick had signed a 20 year contract with Decca(MCA) in the late 60's and was for the most part turning out dreck This all changed with the release of" Rick (not Ricky) Nelson In Concert".Recorded at the Troubadour in LA. Chris and I thought that it would be a good idea to start a place where members can share with each other Lp's that we love, and that others might too, if they knew about them. The only rule that I'll impose on myself is that the Lp has to be something that can be found used with a little work or a reissue that will not cost a arm and a leg.So lets start with a record that changed forever the direction of film music. To Bold a statement? Not Really. The Record was the first of the classic film s…
