I've done this with my music and literature collections.
The music database, as I set it up, allows for media (records, CDs, etc) to be defined by artist and title and then songs are specified. Each song needs to be defined (by writer, if desired...
When I read the headling of this thread, I first thought of something akin to the Internet Movie Database. How hard would it be to create a Wikipedia-like online database for recorded material...CDs, LPs, cassettes, 8-tracks, etc? This would come ...
I used Microsoft Access to create my own database. You can create it as detailed or generic as you want, that way. If you have Access, I can send you the basic database that I created.
The method that I use is similar to that described by Alexander. My turntable runs through a (cheap) Radio Shack pre-amp which I then ran through my computer's sound card. I bought a sound recording program that allows me to record the entire side...
In my collection, I've got a number of K-Tel and Ronco albums that have 10 songs per side, so they've got to have well in excess of 25 minutes per side...but they don't really count.

I was looking at some of your vinyl and I have to say great collection! I carry a lot of that stuff in my shop as I am across from Michigan State University so a lot of indie, alternative as well as everything else. That Black Mountain and Bon Ivor was amazing, Fleet Foxes won my fave of last year though. My family is great. Every year for birthdays and Christmas, they try to get everything requested, and they usually do an excellent job of it. My Record Swap Addiction
Way back when I had no responsibilities, record stores received an inordinate amount of my wages. Any afternoon during my college career, I could sneak off to City Lights, Arboria, or Blue Train and shop for music.
Blue Train sold only CDs and they weren’t a bargain to a college student like me, but they did have a nice selection. City Lights and Arboria concentrated on used records and a new idea at the time, used CDs.
