I'll jump on the bandwagon and agree that regardless of whether they're better or not, I certainly listen to "E.S.P." "Miles Smiles," and "Someday My Prince Will Come" far more often than "Kind of Blue"

We are located in an upstairs location so they have to come upstairs to get here but now that they know we are here it's good and with all of the things that we have been doing help too. In Feb. Monday nights are Unplugged at The Record Lounge where bands and artists do acoustic sets, part of my goal is to be the mecca for local and Mid Michigan bands, as well as bands passing through. we carry as much local bands as we can.
Also our First Anniversary there was a big show that is what my little picture is .

I have to say that since I was in Jr. high in the late 70's it was my dream to open a record shop. then in high school I worked for a place called Michigan Wherehouse Records and did that until 1996. I did this a year ago, started with a partner and 3 months into it he got married and bailed, so I kept it.
The 2 guys that help me out are Hodge and Joe and without them I would be drained. they are students at Michigan State which is across the street and they each add their own flavor and are great boys. They have stuck by me through the rough times.

I knew that you would like the 7th. Which Holst, the Planets?Ive been going through a late Christmas Present to myself, the Geortge szell coplete Beethoven Symphonies and the 5 Piano Concertos with the Cleveland Orchestra, on a Import Sony 8 Cd set that is you can only get at Arkive Music it is the steal of the century less than $48.00 I own the piano Concertos on Lp, and I sold the crap out of the symphonies when I worked in the record store. It is a great set

Alexander, you should check out Kaplins blog on Stereophile .com he said the new Blue Note reissues sound really bad (and I don't mean good) Did you play the Beethoven 7th yet? But I disagree about the CD's . The RVG 's that I have sound quite good.

Alexander, as I was told by the guys from Halfler when I worked for them it is not about watts per say it's about voltage current off the rails. you should be fine.

I wish I had room for bigger speakers, but my NHT Super Zeros's and sub 1 are excellet in my new living space, But Id love a pair of the New PSB's Synchrony 1's or 2's but in this room I might go with the 2.5 s well that's a ways off. Id have to hit up my freinds at Lenbrook(PSB's parenet company)for a deal.Maybe after CES. Happy New YEAR

Gizmodo Gets on the Bandwagon

Wow! All week gizmodo.com, a tech blog that I really like, has been touting audio! They've been talking about cables and vinyl and all kinds of things.

In the past year or so it's been a steady stream of disdain for everything audio and all of the sudden this new and improved attitude of, "Wow, audio is pretty sweet!" shows up. I must admit I'm more than a little surprised but pretty happy about it all.

Happy Birthday Ornette!

It's Ornette Coleman's birthday tomorrow, March 19th. Everybody find their copy of "The Shape of Jazz to Come," or beg, borrow, or do whatever you have to do to get one, and give it a spin. If you haven't heard it, approach with an open mind and a willingness to listen to it two times in a row. It's kind of like listening to Monk for the first time: kind of unsettling and more than a little disorienting. I don't really know how to describe this record. It's "free" without being totally unhinged.… Continue

Say it ain't so, Alex!

I'm getting settled at my new apartment. There are boxes everywhere, hardly any space to walk. Laura, my girlfriend, says, "why don't you hook up the stereo in a temporary spot so we can listen to some vinyl while we unpack? Where'd those Koko Taylor LPs go that we haven't listened to?" There's no way you can say no to that, and I happen to remember just where those Koko LPs went.

So I link everything up: turntable to phono pre, phono pre to integrated, integrated to speakers, power chords..etc… Continue

Krautrocking through Octoberfest!

I hate sauerkraut! It tastes terrible and smells even worse. Anything pickled in general doesn't really do it for me.

I love beer.

I really love Germany's take on rock and roll and psychedelia from the late 60's early 70's via the musical stylings of the recently termed genre Krautrock.

"The Supreme Genius of King Khan an the Shrines"
King Khan and the Shrines
