The recent trivia and "40-minute" posts got me thinking: what are the longest records in your collection? Longest single side of a 7" 45rpm record or longest song/group of songs on a side of an LP?
2 of the longest I have " Genesis -Seconds Out a 2lp live set from 1977 and Gentle Giant,Playing The Fool, The Offical Live Gentle Giant a 2 Lp set also from 1977.; Remember that the quality of an Lp can go down hill after about 22 minutes a side
Led Zeppelin-"The Song Remains The Same" version of Dazed and Confused which is something like 26 minutes and 53 seconds. The long violin bow solo helps out because the lack of a bass guitar allows for narrow grooves. Of course the song takes up an entire side of the LP
Pink Floyd "Meddle" I think that "Echoes" which is the entire entire second side is around 23 minutes and change if memory serves me.
Both songs are cathartic, near religious experiences that leave me at once drained and refreshed.
Jane's Addiction - Ritual De Lo Habitual. Side B is 31 minutes! Side A is only 21, but the album is broken up into a "rock" side (A), and a "mellow" side (B).
In my collection, I've got a number of K-Tel and Ronco albums that have 10 songs per side, so they've got to have well in excess of 25 minutes per side...but they don't really count.
I do have the single "Masquerade" by Berlin. The A-side is about four minutes long, but the B-side is a live version of "Sex (I'm A...)", which clocks in at well over six minutes. Additionally, Dire Straights "Industrial Disease" single is well over five minutes long.
